BIO PARK- full day- The park combines museum exhibits with outdoor walks on the park's 5 hectares. It recreates three of the country's 11 ecosystems & educates visitors about 500,000 species of plants and animals. Cost: $25.
CARTAGO CITY- 1/2 Day- Visit the Ruins of the Saint Bartholomew Temple, the Bascilica of the Virgin of Los Angeles,(patron Saint of Costa Rica) and the open air produce market. Walking (or driving) tour of 10 additional historic sites available.
COFFEE PLANTATION- full day- The Doka Coffee Tour includes the history of coffee in Costa Rica and the process from planting, care of the plantation, picking, sorting, roasting, packaging, & tasting. Cost: $30.
COSTA FLORES GARDENS- 1/2 day- A fully guided tour of the tropical flower and Heliconia gardens near Cuacimo. Cost: $15. Reservations only.
GUAYBO NATIONAL MONUMENT- 1/2 Day- This is the largest & most important site, 19 kilometers north of Turrialba, discovered in Costa Rica. Human occupation seems to go back to 500 B.C. It's main development took place between 800 and 1.400 A.D. when the stone structures, still standing today, were built. Cost: $4. Picnic lunch provided.
IRAZU VOLCANO-1/2 Day- Visit Costa Ricas largest Volcano, located north east of Cartago at an elevation of 3,432 meters. On a clear day and early in the morning, one may see both coasts. Warm clothes needed. Gift shop & snacks available. Cost: $6.
LANKESTER ORCHID GARDENS- 1/2 Day- Walk the garden's many trails to see almost 3,000 species of tropical plants. There are 15 stations to visit on this 27 acre park. Cost:$10.
OROSI VALLEY- 1/2 Day- Circling this verdant coffee producing valley, tourists will visit the country's two oldest churches, a 90 year old sugar cane mill, a hydroelectric dam, a wood carvers house of dreams, and if possible: the oldest church museum, Tapanti National Park, & Hot Springs. PINEAPPLE PLANTATION-1 Day- Visitors to a private Pineapple Plantation, Hacienda Ojo de Agua, near Siquirres, receive an informative guided 2 hour tour covering the Finc's 1,500 hectares of pineapple fields and the processing plant. Cost: $15. Lunch by reservation.
QUETZALS (BIRDWATCHING)- FULL DAY- Traveling south along the Inter American Highway up to an altitude of 8,700 ft. you arrive at the Eddie Obando Farm. Here is a great opportunity to see the elusive Quetzal along with many other high elevation birds. Tour is best March to May. Trail guides available.
RAINFOREST AERIAL TRAM- FULL DAY- The aerial tram is located northeast of Braulio Carrillo National Park. The tour begins with a video, followed by a guided 90 minute ride in a 6 person cable car. A guided, short, walking, nature trail tour is also included Cost: $50
