Meet Us

Bob & Joyce Dirkse

Bob and Joyce came to Costa Rica in 1992 and purchased Finca Oro, a private cloud forest. In 1995, they decided to open a lodge so others could enjoy and share the passion that they have for experiencing and preserving the rainforest. For Bob, a Biology and Chemistry teacher, this was like dying and going to heaven. So, since 1995, Bob has been spending his summers in Costa Rica organizing the trails, collecting and identifying native, unusual, and medicinal plants, and overseeing construction projects. Joyce, a registered nurse, joins Bob when she can and keeps Bob's dreams in reality. They both love the Finca and are pleased to share this spectacular place.

Mario & Maria Loaiza
Mario came to the Finca in 2001. He has been a driver and guide for other tour agencies. His experience with the forestry service has helped him to become very knowledgeable of the flora and fauna of the national parks. He is a self-proclaimed naturalist and as a volunteer for the National Park System, works with the organization to protect the natural environment. As a full-blooded Guatare Indian, he has stories and a history that will leave you with memories you will never forget. His wife Maria serves as the cook of typical Costa Rican food. Mario, in his galloping gourmet style, assists when he is not guiding guests on the trails or serving as chief storyteller. Mario is bilingual, Maria ... almost.
